Your contraceptive has expired and is no longer working
Your contraceptive has expired and is no longer working.
We have sent you an SMS to let you know that your Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC for short!) is now OVERDUE for removal.
You no longer have contraceptive protection, and if you have unprotected sex you may fall pregnant. This is true even if the Implanon or IUD remains in position.
This is the final reminder we will send you, and so we strongly urge you to make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your contraceptive options, as soon as possible. You can call us on 9780 8900.
One option may be to replace the old LARC with a new one.
There are three types of LARC that we use at Wellness on Wellington
- Implanon – a plastic rod in your arm that lasts 3 years
- Mirena – a hormone IUD that lasts 5 years
- Copper IUDs – which last 5 – 10 years depending on brand and size.
There are many other options also, including new forms of the pill; other forms of contraception like Nuvaring and (if you are certain that you have completed your family) sterilisation such as vasectomy. All these methods are available at the clinic but require different assessment and information visits. Please ask reception staff about the procedure for these appointments.
If you have had your LARC removed by another doctor, could you please ring and let us know, so that we can update our records.
